Opening of two positions on Energy & Process in Mozambique : Project Manager and Technical Assistant
Context
Nitidæ develops bioenergy projects for populations with little access to modern forms of energy and for economic players wishing to increase the added value linked to the local transformation of raw materials. The bioenergy projects implemented by Nitidæ aim to achieve sustainable local economic development, while combating deforestation by partially or totally replacing conventional fuels (wood energy, petroleum derivatives).
In Mozambique, the cashew nut industry produces large quantities of residual shells. In the province of Nampula, where most of the processing plants are located, around 34,000 tonnes of shells are generated every year. This by-product has a high energy content that could be exploited for other productive uses. At present, part of the hull is processed to extract the liquid it contains, known as CNSL . The material remaining after extraction is known as cake. All three of these biomasses (unprocessed hulls, CNSL and cake) have interesting properties for use as biofuel, each with a different composition. In 2023, nitidæ published a market study of hull by-products, which identifies the priority sectors for extracting value from hulls and their fractions.
As part of Enabel's Junt@sClima programme, which aims to support solutions with potential for impact and dissemination within rural communities, Outcome 3 focuses on improving access to clean energy services outside the electricity grid. Nitidæ has been selected by Enabel to implement a project to promote the use of alternative fuels, namely cashew nut shells and their derivatives, as well as off-grid energy efficiency solutions. The project will be implemented in the province of Nampula, the region richest in cashew nut shells.
More specifically, it entails to:
Promote the use of hulls as an appropriate fuel for productive use, through pilot installations of hull, oilcake or CNSL combustion devices.
Promote support and advice on the use of biomass energy and energy efficiency, through :
- Sharing experiences (in particular the innovative actions undertaken on the subject in West Africa)
- Demonstrations with key players (ministries, sectoral organisations, users, etc.)
- Training of local professionals to stimulate the emergence of suppliers of specialised equipment needed for the use of alternative fuels and energy efficiency in the local private sector
- Pilot projects or installations focusing on energy efficiency
Energy & Process Project Manager
In order to carry out these activities, Nitidæ is looking to recruit an Energy and Process Project Manager

• To ensure that the activities planned for the project are carried out, and to monitor performance indicators
• Lead the diagnostic and surveys to identify the stakeholders who will benefit from support and guidance in installing energy recovery systems based on alternative fuels or in improving energy efficiency
• Design, plan and support the construction and installation of the above systems, in close coordination with the partners involved in the project
