Main goals

The overall objectives of the Trade Needs Identification (CBI) are to assist Lebanon:

  • by integrating business problems into its development and strategy policy
  • to better benefit from trade
  • to participate more effectively in the multilateral and regional trading system
  • to facilitate relations with donors and catalyze additional funds in the field of trade

Specific objectives

  • Summarize and analyze the main constraints for Lebanon to benefit from trade
  • Complement its needs in the area of TRA to facilitate more systematic engagement of different stakeholders
  • Define an action plan with priorities to remove constraints
  • Identify appropriate links to agricultural development
  • Identify specific actions to be part of a trade-related assistance program, assisting the government on the issues of poverty and gender inequality in the TRA and its action plans.
  • Increase awareness and understanding in the area of TRA through broad consultation across the mission

Beneficiaries

The Government of Lebanon, in particular the party involved in the design and implementation of trade policy, non-state actors involved in the commercial subjects and international or bilateral development agencies involved in technical assistance related to trade

Results

R1. The identification of all the constraints that Lebanon has to face in its participation in world trade
R2. A proposed strategy to address these constraints, taking into account that the objectives and outcomes must have a development orientation in relation to poverty reduction measures in Lebanon
R3. A series of recommendations on how to integrate poverty reduction measures into a national development strategy
