SSI-IDK - Initiative for a sustainable shea industry
Main goals
Establish a high value-added shea value chain for 300 women producers, organised into a cooperative, in northern Côte d’Ivoire by making the most of the natural resources found in the forest area bordering the Mont Tingui Biodiversity Zone (ZDB) on the outskirts of the Comoé National Park
Specific objectives
SO1. Train women collectors and producers to produce higher-quality almonds
SO2. Support women collectors and producers in setting up a cooperative
SO3. Facilitate access to profitable markets in light of the growing demand from players in the shea industry for shea sourcing in Côte d’Ivoire
Activities
A1. Construction of a village-based centre for processing shea nuts and storing shea kernels
A2. Training and support to strengthen the cooperative, improve practices for aggregating high-quality shea kernels, develop the business, and market shea products

Odilon Chambers
As a geographer, specializing in rural development, he has been based in West Africa since 2016. First stationed in Mali on behalf of Luxembourg cooperation, he then joined the team in 2021. Hands-on man, he coordinates agricultural activities in the north of Côte d'Ivoire around cashew-food production systems, forest resources (shea), product labeling as well as environmental conservation around the Comoé National Park. It is also involved in specific studies on value-chain, traceability and marketing
