Main goals

To conduct an analysis of the financing needs and investment opportunities for sustainable and competitive investments in cashew nut processing in Côte d'Ivoire, with a particular focus on both public and private investments.

Specific objectives

SO1 — Identification of required investments:
Identify the investments required to enhance opportunities for increasing value addition in the cashew nut sector in the country.
SO2 — Assessment of technologies and technological gaps:
Based on a review of global trends and best practices, both in Côte d’Ivoire and internationally, assess suitable technologies as well as relevant technological gaps in cashew nut processing and value addition in Côte d’Ivoire, and identify appropriate potential investments for this sub-sector.
SO3 — Definition of preliminary investment profiles:
Determine and describe investment profiles targeting potential investors, aimed at supporting productivity, efficiency, and the maximization of environmental and social externalities.

Results

A report with the following key recommendations:

R1. Strengthening the quality and predictability of the business climate

R2. Increasing access to working capital financing

Activities

A1. Building on Nitidæ’s experience in the country and across the value chain, including recent work, a review of the literature, reports, and existing data on the global and national cashew nut value chain.

A2. A short mission (two weeks) in Côte d'Ivoire to meet stakeholders and operators in the cashew nut value chain. In preparation for this mission, the service provider will conduct interviews with value chain stakeholders in order to prepare in advance a draft overall report on investment processing. During the mission, the service provider will complete and validate the preliminary findings, in particular through consultations with stakeholders, in close collaboration with FAO and the relevant stakeholders.

Anne Meyer

Agroeconomist graduated from the Institut des Régions Chaudes (IRC) of the Institut Agro Montpellier and from EM LYON (MSc Management), she has been passionate about tropical agricultural value chains for more than twenty years. She has put her skills at the service of NGOs and cooperatives, but also of the FAO and the organic agri-food industry (Ecotone group). She joined the Nitidæ studies department in March 2024.
