Come meet Nitidæ at SARA in Abidjan to talk about the circular economy in cashew nuts!

The CNSL market offers many opportunities and the energy and chemical sectors are interested in it as a substitute for petroleum

The cashew processing sector is quickly growing in Africa. In particular in Côte d'Ivoire, recently became second world exporter of cashew kernels (with more than 5,300 tonnes exported in August 2023 - see here). The use of by-products such as the cashew shells is also increasing. Some processors already produce Cashew Nut Shell Liquid (CNSL) and there is a lot of potential for other processors to get involved (reserve of 100,000 tonnes of shells available per year in Côte d'Ivoire). The sale of CNSL have great market opportunities. International buyers in the energy and chemical sectors are interested in this product as a substitute for petroleum. Additionally, demand from local buyers provides new opportunities to diversify the sales market.

This event and the discussions that will follow will aim to:

  • Encourage local processing of cashew shells for cashew processors or outside investors
  • Give financial figures for CNSL processing (investment, sales, ROI)
  • Understanding of CNSL and shells selling prices (locally and internationally)
  • Overview of actual international market
  • Possibilities for local market
  • National target of the CCA (Le Conseil du Coton et de l'Anacarde) for the shells value addition

And of course bring together the different national and international stakeholders in this growing sector. Among the speakers we will count on technical experts in shell valorization, cashew and CNSL processors, national institutes, potential investors, clients, donors, potential local users and other stakeholders that show interest.

We're waiting for you at the SARA!
